In these times of hatred and of strife,
Of divides perhaps too deep to heal,
Days with discord and with hatred rife,
Humans with no home nor decent meal,
In these trying times that should not be,
Politicians’ tricks and children caged,
Can we not at least as one agree
It is time to end ill will and rage?
Remember that there always have been
Trying times such as these in the past
Wars and ugliness our Earth has seen
But those times of trouble did not last.
So may we now in the close of year,
Find a way to seek a common ground,
Overcome our distrust and our fear
So that peace and goodwill may abound.
We must try now, each and everyone
Shoulder burden, keep faith, do our part,
Must not look the other way and run,
Act with resolve, look deep in our heart.
If we all try, if we find a way
Turn a new leaf in the coming year
There may dawn a bright new day
Without hatred, without fear.
A new path, a better way of life
For the Earth and all animal kind
That will lead us to peace without strife
To ties that will all together bind.
May we find the path to peace
On this longest, darkest night
And follow it without cease
Til we reach a new dawn’s light.
